The importance of a daily routine:
Often people dismiss the importance of a routine that supports your well-being.
Without routine in my life I constantly feel all over the place, never grounded, and never secure. This causes my nervous system to feel unsteady and my body to remain in flight/fight mode causing cortisol (stress hormone) levels to rise. Staying in this stress-activated state can lead to chronic illness, anxiety, depression, injury, and even burnout.
A routine helps you stay grounded, confident, and empowered. The more that we can focus on a way of living that is sustainable, the better we feel internally to be able to achieve our goals and dreams and that’s a fun place to be in! I always say, you are either working with your body or you are working against it, and a routine is the best way to show your body that you are working with it.
Now, a daily routine does not have to be so rigid. Just pick a few non-negotiables that you want to accomplish during the day that give you a sense of accomplishment. Here are my top daily practices:
-Getting up with the sunrise
-Morning meditation
-Daily walk in the sun
-Strength training workout
-Wind down hour before bed with no phone use
Doing these practices every day help keep my nervous system regulated, supported, and ready for whatever life throws my way. Most importantly, these practices fuel me with the confidence I need to keep moving forward.
I do want to note, never take your routine too seriously! If you miss something or forget to do something do not beat yourself up…just start again the next day. A routine isn’t supposed to wrapped in shame if not completed, it is meant to be a guide you can always come back to when you want to support yourself and your journey.
